If you are looking up the bike renew price in Nepal 2082, the year you are paying for has probably moved on. Fiscal year 2082/83 ended in mid-July 2026, and every payment made since 1 Shrawan 2083 falls in FY 2083/84 (mid-July 2026 to mid-July 2027). Vehicle tax is set by each province, not nationally, so the price depends on where the bike is registered. This guide gives the current price in all seven provinces, what the sources show about the 2082/83 rates, and what you pay now if you missed your 2082/83 renewal. The figures match the Nepal vehicle tax calculator on this site, which was built from each province's finance act and vehicle act.
What does a bike renewal cost now that FY 2083/84 has started?
A renewal has three parts: the province's annual vehicle tax, the bluebook renewal charge, and compulsory third-party insurance. The tax is the part that varies. These are the FY 2083/84 amounts for a privately registered petrol motorcycle or scooter at common engine sizes:
| Province | 125cc | 150cc | 160cc | 200cc | 250cc | Renewal charge |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Koshi | Rs 3,100 | Rs 5,100 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 8,000 | Rs 200 |
| Madhesh | Rs 3,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 300 |
| Bagmati | Rs 3,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 12,000 | Rs 300 |
| Gandaki | Rs 3,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 11,000 | Rs 300 |
| Lumbini | Rs 3,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 11,000 | Rs 300 |
| Karnali | Rs 2,700 | Rs 4,300 | Rs 5,500 | Rs 5,500 | Rs 5,500 | Rs 200 |
| Sudurpashchim | Rs 2,800 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 6,500 | Rs 300 |
The slab edges are not the same everywhere, which is why a 160cc or 250cc bike pays such different amounts. Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini run one slab from 151cc to 225cc; Madhesh splits at 160cc and 250cc; Koshi splits at 200cc and 250cc; Karnali and Sudurpashchim run one slab from 151cc to 250cc. Use the cc printed in your bluebook, not the model name. Rates for larger bikes and electric two-wheelers are in the vehicle tax by province tables, and the 200cc bike tax guide covers the 200cc band in detail.
Karnali's table writes each band as "from X to Y", so an exact 125, 150, 250, 400 or 650cc appears in two bands; the figures here put it in the lower band, as the calculator does.
Third-party insurance is national, from the Nepal Insurance Authority tariff, as insurers charge it with VAT and stamp duty: Rs 1,706 below 150cc, Rs 1,932 for 150–250cc and Rs 2,158 above 250cc. The FY 2083/84 budget raised third-party cover to Rs 10 lakh, and premiums may change when the Authority issues new rates.
So a 125cc scooter renewed on time in Bagmati costs Rs 3,000 + Rs 300 + Rs 1,706 = Rs 5,006, and a 150cc bike in Karnali costs Rs 4,300 + Rs 200 + Rs 1,932 = Rs 6,432.
What was the bike renew price in 2082/83, and what changed?
For most petrol motorcycles the 2082/83 price was the same as today's, because most provinces left the slabs alone. What the research record shows, province by province:
- Koshi: changed. In 2082/83 one slab of Rs 6,200 covered 150–250cc. For 2083/84 it was split into 151–200cc at Rs 6,500 and 201–250cc at Rs 8,000. The fine on late tax also fell, from 20% and 32% to 10% and 20%.
- Madhesh: the changes recorded are to electric vehicles, which are now taxed by price instead of motor power, and to one car slab. No change to the petrol motorcycle slabs is recorded.
- Bagmati: motorcycle rates unchanged. The only rate change was a Rs 1,500 rise for electric cars, buses and trucks up to 50 kW.
- Gandaki: tax rates unchanged. The private car renewal charge rose from Rs 400 to Rs 500.
- Lumbini: rates unchanged; both finance acts were compared.
- Karnali: rates and renewal charges unchanged, but the fine rules changed. In 2082/83 there was a three-month grace period and then 5%, 10%, 20% and 30%. In 2083/84 it is 90 days with no fine, then 20% within the fiscal year and 30% once it has ended.
- Sudurpashchim: still on 2082/83 rates. The province had not passed its 2083/84 budget as of 27 September 2026, so tax is collected under the Finance Act 2082 by official notice. If a new finance act raises rates, the higher rates apply only from the date it takes effect.
The full comparison is in the FY 2083/84 vehicle tax guide.
What do you pay if you missed your 2082/83 renewal?
You pay for both years: the missed 2082/83 year with its fine, and the 2083/84 year once its registration year has begun. Late payment costs you in two separate ways:
- A fine on the tax, as a percentage of that year's tax. It does not grow monthly; it steps up in bands set by each province.
- A surcharge on the renewal charge: +100% of the renewal charge for each year late, up to 500% (five years).
If the missed year's deadline fell in FY 2082/83 and you are paying in FY 2083/84 more than 75 days after that deadline, the fine on that year is the rate for "a later fiscal year". In Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki the 5% and 10% day bands still apply within the first 75 days after the deadline, even across the year end.
| Province | Fine on the missed 2082/83 tax, paid in 2083/84 | Renewal surcharge, up to one year late |
|---|---|---|
| Koshi | 20% | +100% |
| Madhesh | 30% | +100% |
| Bagmati | 32% | +100% |
| Gandaki | 40%, but waived if paid by Baisakh end 2084 (see below) | +100%, also waived |
| Lumbini | 40%, with half of the fine off if paid by Chaitra end 2083 | +100% |
| Karnali | 30% | +100% |
| Sudurpashchim | 30% | +100% |
These use the 2083/84 fine rules for the missed year, as the calculator does; in Koshi and Karnali, where the fine rules changed, the office may apply the 2082/83 rules instead (see below).
Several provinces' laws are unclear about whether that later-year fine repeats or accumulates each year. For one missed year it makes no difference: the rate above is what applies either way.
Worked example: 150cc bike, one year missed, in every province
Say your bluebook ran out on Shrawan 10, 2082, you never renewed, and you pay on Asoj 11, 2083 (27 September 2026). The 2082/83 deadline was in Kartik 2082, so that year is about 11 months late. The 2083/84 year began on Shrawan 10, 2083 and its deadline is in Kartik 2083, so it is not late yet. Insurance is left out:
| Province | Tax, two years | Fine | Renewal + surcharge | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Koshi | Rs 10,200 | Rs 1,020 | Rs 600 | Rs 11,820 |
| Madhesh | Rs 10,000 | Rs 1,500 | Rs 900 | Rs 12,400 |
| Bagmati | Rs 10,000 | Rs 1,600 | Rs 900 | Rs 12,500 |
| Gandaki | Rs 10,000 | Rs 0 | Rs 600 | Rs 10,600 |
| Lumbini | Rs 10,000 | Rs 1,000 | Rs 900 | Rs 11,900 |
| Karnali | Rs 8,600 | Rs 1,290 | Rs 600 | Rs 10,490 |
| Sudurpashchim | Rs 10,000 | Rs 1,500 | Rs 900 | Rs 12,400 |
Three of these step by step:
- Bagmati: 2082/83 tax Rs 5,000 + 32% fine Rs 1,600 + renewal Rs 300 + 100% surcharge Rs 300, then 2083/84 tax Rs 5,000 + renewal Rs 300. Total Rs 5,000 + Rs 1,600 + Rs 600 + Rs 5,000 + Rs 300 = Rs 12,500.
- Lumbini: the 40% fine on Rs 5,000 is Rs 2,000, and paying before the end of Chaitra 2083 takes half of it off, leaving Rs 1,000. Total Rs 5,000 + Rs 1,000 + Rs 600 + Rs 5,000 + Rs 300 = Rs 11,900. The waiver covers the fine on the tax, not the renewal surcharge.
- Koshi, 200cc instead of 150cc: 2082/83 tax Rs 6,500 + 20% fine Rs 1,300 + renewal Rs 200 + surcharge Rs 200, then 2083/84 tax Rs 6,500 + renewal Rs 200. Total Rs 14,900.
Pay before the current year's own deadline (Kartik 2083 in this example), or the 2083/84 year picks up a fine of its own.
Is the missed year charged at 2082/83 or 2083/84 rates?
The calculator charges earlier years at the current year's rates and fine rules. For most bikes that makes no difference, because the rates did not change. It matters in Koshi, where a 200cc bike's 2082/83 year could be charged at the old Rs 6,200 slab instead of Rs 6,500, and in Koshi and Karnali, where the fine rules changed. The law does not settle this clearly, so check with the transport office.
Several provinces also add an age surcharge on bikes more than 15 years old. The calculator does not include it.
Are there amnesties that cut the fine?
Four provinces have fine relief in FY 2083/84 for vehicles that stay on the road. Each has conditions:
- Gandaki: a vehicle already behind on 1 Shrawan 2083 that pays by the end of Baisakh 2084 has the fines on the tax and the renewal for years before 2083/84 waived, "for the last time". Fines on the 2083/84 year itself still apply. This is why the Gandaki row above has no fine.
- Lumbini: half of the fine on the tax is waived for payments up to the end of Chaitra 2083. Only one concession can be used at a time, so a private electric bike gets either the 20% EV rebate or this waiver, not both.
- Koshi: more than three years behind and paying by the end of Jestha 2084, the fines of the years before the last three are waived. Every year's tax and renewal charge is still due.
- Sudurpashchim: five or more years unpaid, the fines on the tax and the renewal are waived in full when both are paid.
Bagmati has no general fine amnesty for private vehicles this year; its relief covers only deregistering a lost or unusable two-wheeler by the end of Poush 2083. Madhesh and Karnali relief applies only to vehicles being struck off or scrapped. A single missed 2082/83 year in Koshi or Sudurpashchim is too recent to qualify for those schemes.
How do you renew, and can you pay online?
Pay the tax, keep valid third-party insurance, and have the bluebook renewed at your province's transport office. In Bagmati the tax must be paid before the bluebook can be renewed or the bike transferred. The bike bluebook renewal guide covers the counter steps.
The tax deadline runs from the date in your bluebook, not from one national date. Bagmati and Madhesh give three months after that date. Koshi and Lumbini give 90 days, but not past Asar end. Gandaki's finance act gives 90 days, while its vehicle act says Chaitra end; the calculator uses the 90 days. Karnali takes the bluebook date or Chaitra end, whichever is first, and adds 90 days. Sudurpashchim takes three months or Chaitra end, whichever is first. The renewal deadline is three months after the bluebook date in every province except Koshi, which gives 90 days.
Online payment rules differ by province. In Bagmati, from 2083/84, tax paid online that shows in the Vehicle Registration System (VRS) removes the need for a physical bluebook renewal. In Koshi, tax paid online on time carries no fine on the tax even if the bluebook is not renewed, but the late-renewal surcharge still applies. Elsewhere, check with your transport office.
For the full province-by-province rules, see the vehicle tax in Nepal guide, or the bike kar guide for 2083. To work out your own figure from the date in your bluebook, enter it in the vehicle tax calculator.
